A mobile environmental technology app built to digitize lake management in the field.
Opportunity
In an industry still dependent on manual reporting and fragmented tools, SEPRO set off to build a mobile companion app that modernized how lake management professionals collect data, initiate testing, and access insights in the field.
The goal was to replace paper-based workflows and disconnected systems with a single, intuitive mobile experience that supports real-time decision-making without slowing down crews working outdoors, often in challenging conditions.
Solution
I owned the UX strategy and end-to-end product design, focusing on speed, clarity, and the realities of outdoor fieldwork. Through stakeholder collaboration and workflow mapping, I identified where mobile interactions could replace manual steps and eliminate post-field administrative effort.
I designed the experience around task efficiency over feature density—optimizing for one-handed use, low cognitive load, and fast scanning. The UI emphasizes high-contrast layouts, clear hierarchy, and streamlined data entry to ensure reliability in bright, time-sensitive field conditions.
Key Features:
• Field Data Capture: Log observations, conditions, and notes in real time
• Test Initiation: Start water testing directly from the app
• Data Access: View lake history, results, and insights on demand
• Connected Workflow: Seamless handoff between field teams and office systems
Results
The mobile companion app successfully replaced fragmented, manual workflows with a fully digital field-to-office experience. Following the initial MVP launch, 47 out of 50 early adopters immediately signed up as active users, validating the product’s usability and strong early product–market fit.
The solution reduced administrative overhead, improved data accuracy, and enabled lake management professionals to spend more time in the field and less time managing paperwork—while positioning SEPRO’s platform as a scalable environmental technology solution.
